Yes. But you have to compete in order to obtain it in a sort of tournament to the death. There are seven teams in total, and we are placed into pairs that make up of a human, known as a Master, and a Heroic Spirit, known as a Servant.
All you really need to do is kill just either the Servant or Master in any pair to knock them out of the running, since once cannot compete without the other. Servants cannot retain their forms without a Master, even, and will just end up dying after if they lose theirs. In the case of Zheng and Caster, they had both lost their previous partners, but they managed to make a new bond before Caster vanished from the world.
... well, we didn't really enter it willingly. It is more like we were chosen for it. And once you're fully in, you cannot back out until you're knocked out of the running.

Iori is working towards a peaceful era, where people do not have to suffer.
So, you are trapped in this competition where you must fight against others who all want this power - this Waxing Moon - and the man you are aligned with will not use this power? Instead, you are fighting to make sure no one has it.

What is the Waxing Moon exactly? Some sort of powerful magic, I assume. It grants wishes?

We know it is an actual, physical vessel. So we will simply get it, and destroy it. And if it's destroyed, another ritual like this cannot repeat.
